I bow to Lord Shiva, whose three eyes are the sun, moon, and fire. He wears the snake as a garland and is adorned with ashes. He is eternal, pure, and wears the directions as his garment. I offer my salutations to the letter ‘na’.
Mandakini-salila-chandana-charchitaaya,
Nandishvara-pramathanatha-maheshvaraya,
Mandara-pushpa-vahasra-rairasho,
Tasmai ‘Ma’-kaaraaya Namah Shivaya.
I bow to Lord Shiva, who is anointed with water from the Ganga and sandalwood paste. He is the lord of Nandi and the destroyer of Daksha’s sacrifice. He wears the Mandara flower and a thousand serpents as ornaments. I offer my salutations to the letter ‘ma’.
Shivaaya Gauri-vadanabja-vrinda,
Suryaya Daksha-dvara-nashakaya,
Shri-Neelakanthaya Vrisha-dhwajaya,
Tasmai ‘Shi’-kaaraaya Namah Shivaya.
I bow to Lord Shiva, who is surrounded by a multitude of lotus-faced goddesses. He is the destroyer of the door to the sacrifice of Daksha. He has a blue neck and a bull as his emblem. I offer my salutations to the letter ‘shi’.
Vasishta-kumbhodbhava-gautama-adi,
Munindra-devaarchita Shekharaaya,
Chandrarka-vaishvanara-lochanaya,
Tasmai ‘Va’-kaaraaya Namah Shivaya.
I bow to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped by the sages Vasishta, Gautama, and others. He wears the crescent moon and sun as his eyes. I offer my salutations to the letter ‘va’.
Yakshasvra-kinnara-gandharva-raaja,
Kimpurusha-bhuta-preta-pishacha,
Brahmaadaya-pujaita-naatitara,
Tasmai ‘Ya’-kaaraaya Namah Shivaya.
I bow to Lord Shiva, who is worshipped by the yakshas, kinnaras, gandharvas, and other celestial beings. He is beyond the reach of Brahma and other deities. I offer my salutations to the letter ‘ya’.
