Nava Tirupathi Sthalams

Like the Navagriha Sthalams in the Chola country, the Nava Tirupati in the Pandya country are also considered as Navagriha Sthalams. They are,

  1. Srivaikuntam – Sun Sthalam
  2. Varagunamangai (Natham) – Moon Sthalam
  3. Thirukkolur – Mars Sthalam
  4. Thirupuliyangudi – Mercury Sthalam
  5. Azhwar Thirunagari – Guru Sthalam
  6. Thenthiruperai – Sukran Sthalam
  7. Perungulam – Saturn Sthalam
  8. Double Tirupathi (Thevarpiran) – Rahu Sthalam
  9. Double Tirupathi (Aravindalochanar) – Ketu Sthalam

Dasavathara and Navagrahas

Usually we get the darshan of Navagrahas only in Shiva temples. In Perumal temples, instead of Navagrahas, we get the darshan of Chakrathazhwara. There is a shrine of Navagrahas in the Vaishnava temple of Madurai, Kudalazhagar.

Sri Vaikuntanatha (Kallapiran Swamy) Temple

This temple, a place of the sun, is located 1 km from Sri Vaikuntam railway station and 30 km from Tirunelveli. The temple is located on the road from Tirunelveli to Tiruchendur.

This temple, a lunar shrine, is located in the village of Natham in Thoothukudi district. This temple is located 2 km from Srivaikundam, the first of the Navathirupatis, and 32 km from Tirunelveli.

Thirukkolur Vaithamanidhi Perumal Temple

This Thirukkolur temple, which is considered a Mars temple, is about 36 km from Tirunelveli and about 34 km from Thoothukudi. You can reach this Thirukkoloor temple by coming 3 km from Thenthirupparai, another Navathirupa, on the road to Azhwar Thirunagari and then going about 2 km on the branch road.

Although it is customary to visit the Nava Tirupati temples in the order of the Navagrahas, starting from Sri Vaikuntam, and proceeding to Natham, Thirukkoloor, and Thirupuliyangudi, there is an opportunity to visit these Nava Tirupati temples in one day, depending on the opening hours of the respective temples. Starting from Sri Vaikuntam at 7:30 in the morning, you can visit the temples in the order of Azhwar Thirunagari, Thirukkoloor, Thenthirupperai, Perungulam, Dwetthi Tirupati, Thirupuliyangudi, and Natham, and get the satisfaction of visiting all the temples.
